The GHG Assessment Score is a comprehensive metric used to evaluate the completeness, quality, and actionability of your carbon reporting and reduction strategy. The total score is out of 120 points, composed of five main sections: Measure, Reduce, Raise Awareness, Commit, and Contribute, plus a Bonus section.

1. Measure (Total /40)

This section rewards the quality and precision of your Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Report, primarily focusing on the use of activity-based data.

GHG Report Precision (/30)

This score measures the percentage of your total emissions calculated using activity-based data (physical data) rather than less precise methods. The more precise your report, the higher the points awarded.

  • Update Trigger: This value is automatically updated when the report is downloaded or edited4.

  • Formula Logic: Your share of activity-based emissions is compared against the performance of other companies in the Greenly database to award points.

    • If your share of activity-based emissions is higher than 94% of other company shares, you earn the maximum 30 points.

    • If your share is between 47% and 56% of other company shares, you earn 15 points.

    • If your share is between 4% and 22% of other company shares, you earn 6 points.

Quality Check & Report Finalization (/5)

  • Description: You are awarded 5 points when your report is formally marked as ready.

  • Update Trigger: Automatically updated.

Scope 1 & 2 (/5)

This section is split into two components focusing on the quality of your Scope 1 and Scope 2 data.

Scope 1 & 2 Activity-Based (/3)

  • Description: 3 points are awarded if 100% of your Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are calculated using activity-based data (meaning no expense-based activities remain for these scopes).

  • Prerequisite: Data collection must be finished to trigger this check13.

Scope 1 & 2 No Hypothesis (/2)

  • Description: 2 points are awarded if there are no emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 that were calculated using hypotheses or estimates.

2. Reduce (Total /50)

This section evaluates your climate strategy and your efforts to reduce emissions.

Climate Strategy & Reduction Actions (/20)

Reduction Objective (/2)

You are awarded up to 2 points based on the ambition of your validated decarbonization objectives.

  • Set an objective of at least 20% reduction by 2030: 1 point.

  • Set an objective of at least 30% reduction by 2030: 2 points.

Reduction Actions (Action Already Done) (/3)

Points are awarded for actions already completed or in progress that are set up by the company.

  • I have validated 5+ actions, updated the status, and uploaded proof in the action drawer: +1 point.

  • I have validated 10+ actions, updated the status, and uploaded proof in the action drawer: +2 points (for a total of 3 points).

  • Update Trigger: This value is updated manually after proof review.

Quantified Actions (/15)

This is based on the selected reduction scenario and its potential to lower your emissions by 2030.

  • Reduction potential of 10% by 2030: 3 points.

  • Reduction potential of 20% by 2030: 5 points.

  • Reduction potential of at least 30% by 2030: 10 points.

  • Reduction potential of at least 42% by 2030 (aligning with the SBTi target): 15 points.

Yearly Evolution: Effective Reduction (/30)

This component rewards the actual reduction achieved in subsequent reporting years compared to your base year. The 30 points are split equally: 15 points for progress against your chosen reduction scenario, and 15 points for alignment with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) objective (-42% by 2030).

The points are calculated using the following general principle for each 15-point component:

Points = \frac{(i-r)}{(i-p)} \times \text{maxPoints}

Where:

  • i = Base year emissions.

  • r = Real emissions (current year).

  • p = Projected emissions (from the reduction objective or SBTi target)33.

  • If your real emissions (r) are on track with projected emissions (p), you receive the full 15 points.

  • If your real emissions are higher than your base year emissions (r > i), you receive 0 points.

⚠️ This comparison does not account for changes in calculation methodology, which would require a rebaselining.

3. Raise Awareness (Total /20)

This section focuses on engaging your supply chain and your employees37.

Supplier Engagement (/15)

Points are distributed across three main areas of supplier data quality and engagement.

Supplier Data Precision (/5)

  • 1 point if 20% or more of your supplier emissions are linked to an activity.

  • +2 points if 50% or more of your supplier emissions are linked to an activity.

  • +2 points if 80% or more of your supplier emissions are linked to an activity.

Supplier Validation (/2)

  • 2 points if 80% or more of suppliers are validated by the client.

Supplier Engagement (/8)

  • 4 points for engaging at least your top 5 suppliers.

  • 4 points if 67% of your suppliers are engaged (the SBTi 2030 target).

Raise Awareness Among Employees (/5)

Points are awarded based on employee participation in internal or external trainings.

  • If an employee completes at least one training, they are considered trained for the year.

  • Client reaches 10% of employees completing a training: 1 point.

  • Client reaches 40% of employees completing a training: +1 point.

  • Client reaches 80% of employees completing a training: +3 points (for a maximum of 5 points).

4. Commit (Total /20)

This section tracks your commitment to disclosure and official external validation50.

Communicate & Disclose (/10)

Public Disclosure (/7)

  • ADEME disclosure: 3 points for sharing your emissions with ADEME.

  • CDP Disclosure: 4 points for sharing your emissions with CDP.

Public Communication (/3)

  • 3 points are awarded for publicly communicating your commitment by sharing your company certificate.

  • To complete the task: You must download the certificate and share it publicly on a platform like LinkedIn, then upload the link to the corresponding task.

SBTi Submission (/10)

  • 10 points are awarded when your company's SBTi commitment is submitted and validated.

  • Update Trigger: This is a manual update; proof must be sent to your Account Manager.

5. Contribute - Offset (Total /5)

Points are awarded for offsetting required amounts of CO2 equivalent emissions.

  • 2 points are given for the first offset task (typically 10% of Scope 1 & 2 emissions)58.

  • 3 points are given for the second offset task (typically 10% of total emissions).

6. Bonus (Total /20)

Referral (/10)

1 point is awarded for every warm prospect introduction referred to Greenly (up to 10 points total).

  • Update Trigger: This value is updated manually.

Complete an LCA with Greenly (/10)

1 point is awarded for each completed Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) done with Greenly, up to a maximum of 10 points.

  • Update Trigger: Automatically updated upon LCA validation.
