This article helps you fill out the 'Use of Sold Products' module.
1. Why Consider Emissions from Use of sold products?
This module is designed to assess the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by your products after their sale, throughout their life cycle, up to the final customer or through intermediate processes. It is relevant in cases where your company sells products whose use leads to GHG emissions.
This module does not take into account the end-of-life treatment of sold products, which is assessed in a separate module titled "End-of-life treatment of Sold Products.”
Products concerned
The products covered by this module can vary and include, but are not limited to, electronic devices, vehicles, clothing, and other consumer goods that consume energy (electricity, fuel, gasoline) during their use.
Data required
Name of the product (mandatory)
Section (optional): Additional information or category of the product. This column is only used for qualitative analysis purposes
Country of usage (optional)
Sales quantity over the year of the assessment (mandatory)
Product lifespan in years (mandatory)
Type of energy consumed [Electricity, Natural gas, Gasoline, etc.] (mandatory)
Unit used to measure the consumption. 4 units are available: kWh, L, m3, and gal [US] (mandatory)
Percentage allocation of emissions, if the product is part of an assembly - The usual allocation key is the weight of the component in relation to the weight of the assembly. (optional)
Annual unitary energy consumption of the product OR;
If the annual consumption is not available, the average hourly consumption, along with the average number of hours used per day and number of days used per year.
2. Upload your data
To complete the module, click on the corresponding task on the Progress page or go to Data > Data Collection > Use of Sold Products and follow the steps below:
Download the data collection template as an Excel file or a Google sheet, by clicking on « Import data » > “Bulk import”.
Follow the process written in the first tab “READ ME” to fill the mandatory columns correctly.
Upload your template completed onto the module. A Greenly analyst will take over to compute the related carbon emissions and import the results.
3. Results
The Results page offers a clear and detailed view of the emissions from the use of sold products, ranging from household appliances to industrial equipment. You will be able to filter by product category and usage type.
